We stayed in Koh Yao Yai Beach Resort, because, first of all it was 'on our way' to south-west Thailand and Krabi area, and secondly because it was the only resort on the island with sunsets (facing west) and a possibility to swim during low tide as well. The room rates were very resonable, around USD 35 per night per bungalow and the resort had power for 24 hours.

The resort can arrange transfers from Phuket or Krabi and now, in hidsight, that would have been the easiest way to travel. Instead we took a transfer from Phuket to Bang Rong pier, from there a speed boat to Koh Yao Yai harbour and a taxi from harbour to the resort and ended up paying even more than the resort's own transfer, which is the easier alternative.Album 'Fishermen on Yao Yai' uploaded 2010-03-15 by Eeva

Part of the fish was dried in traditional way to preserve it. Fridges are a new invention and most people on these islands do not have electricity at all.Album 'Koh Yao Yai, The Beach of Yao Yai Beach Resort' uploaded 2010-03-12 by Eeva

Speed boats to Koh Yao Yai (Yao Yai island) are leving from this pier. The ticket price of about USD20/person includes also transportation from town to the pier. The speed boat had a big writing on the side: 'GREEN WORLD' but then it had three huge engines...VROOM VROOM! Album 'Great White Heron' uploaded 2010-03-10 by glasson
